Afari Elkarte-The Stonehouse Dining
Society
For gourmets and gourmands, the
Stonehouse Dining Society presents the
unique and unusual. The words "Afari
Elkarte" are in the Basque language and
mean "Dining Society". In the Basque
territory-located in northern Spain and
southern France-these societies have
been popular for hundreds of years.
The dinners range the globe and
historical events. But it's not just
about the food. It's also about
understanding the history and cultural
background that produced the food. With
each dinner, there is a brief
presentation that gives meaning to the
recipes, ingredients and cultural
environment. The menus may be regional,
topical, or historical. They are, of
course, paired with the appropriate
wines or aperitifs.
And, it's about fun. Seating is
Basque-style at tables of eight and
ensures conviviality as well as a great
meal.
